The Drum Workshop serves groups of people of every age and level of
ability in our community, and can help you bring the joy of ensemble
drumming to groups in your community!
However, our mission is not limited to helping create a global drumming
community, but to help create a world full of people who feel good
about themselves, respect each other, express themselves artistically,
enjoy community in its broadest sense, and work joyfully and
effectively together.
Drum
Workshop programming has tremendous value as a powerful musical
experience and an introduction to the instruments and traditions of a
variety of cultures.
Ensemble drumming is a living
metaphor for the workings of a community, and an excellent medium for
enhancing individual self esteem, refining communication skills,
nurturing the spirit of cooperation, and developing a sense of oneself
as part of something greater. Its extended value lies in its ability to
reach people on a deep level, and the benefits received through the
ensemble experience generalize into other areas of the participant’s
lives.
Our curriculum is based in
authentic, African and Caribbean traditions, and we offer a variety of
programs, performances, curriculum, materials, and instruments
appropriate for groups of every description.
Ensemble drumming is the focal point
and the medium of the service we provide, so our immediate
objective is to create a joyful environment where participants are
inspired to meet the challenge of playing together. We assist in,
and encourage the development of on-going ensembles that continue to
explore the experience drumming offers, share their abilities,
enthusiasm and joy with their communities, and gain fulfillment and
inspiration from each other.
